CCleaner is a great freeware program which you can use to remove the junk from your hard drive and registry. CCleaner is as good as any commercial disk cleaning product and works much better then the standard Windows utilities (like Microsoft’s “Disk Cleanup”).

 

Some of the nice features of this free product are:

-          Removes old or unused OS files from your hard drive (like old Windows patches, cached internet browser files and temp files).

-          Removes unused and temp files associated with applications too (like Office, Google Earth and many more…).

-          Removes junk entries in your registry (information left over from old applications you have long since uninstalled, broken registry links and file associations, etc).

-          It also has a nice uninstall tool to help you get rid of applications that have broken or no install-uninstall scripts.

 

CCleaner deletes files in a secure manner (it actually overwrites files rather than just delete the references to the files in the file system).
